Tour Description
Rottnest Island is a unique and exciting location, full of natural beauty and a wealth of wildlife. Now you can explore this stunning island, on a full day ferry and coach tour!
• Enjoy an exciting and comfortable ferry ride to and from Rottnest Island
• See the sights all over the island with a 90 minute guided coach tour
• Learn about Rottnest Island’s most popular sites and their history and cultural value
Whether being transferred from selected Fremantle accommodation or making your own way to ‘B Shed’, Victoria Quay in Fremantle (2 minutes’ walk from Fremantle Train Station), you’ll board your ferry for a 9.30am departure and head towards Rottnest Island. The ferry you’ll board has been designed specifically to ensure comfort and speed along the commonly rough crossing from the mainland to the island. Sailing along on either the Star Flyte Express, Eagle Express or the MV Sea Eagle Express, you’ll enjoy gorgeous ocean views along the way.
Upon arrival at Rottnest Island, your day will include a 90 minute coach tour and free time to explore at your own pace. Check your boarding tickets for your coach tour time, and plan your day with that in mind.
Your 90 minute coach tour will depart from the Main Bus Stop in the Thompson's Bay settlement and includes a warm welcome by your tour guide, who will usher you to your seat on your comfortable, air-conditioned tour coach. You’ll then embark on a 1.5-hour journey around this lovely island, exploring its most significant sites and learning of its fascinating culture and history. You’ll see and learn about the diverse and unique flora and fauna on Rottnest Island – including the adorable quokka – and you will hop out of the coach at various areas of significance, such as the Rottnest Museum, Oliver Hill, Lomas Cottage, the Pilot Boat House and West End, for a stroll along the boardwalk.
Your free time on the island can be filled easily as Rottnest Island really is a special place of natural beauty. With a huge number of beaches (63 in fact) and bays (20) for such a small island, you’d expect this postcard-perfect hideaway to be teeming with tourists, but you can always find a secluded corner to admire. The real drawcard of the island though is the native wildlife. You’ve probably heard that the island is full of cute little quokkas – and in fact, the isle’s name comes from the Dutch term ‘Rotte nest’, which means ‘rat’s nest’ and was in reference to the huge quokka population – but did you know it has also been declared an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International? Rottie (as the locals like to call it) also boasts rare and unusual mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, crustaceans, and corals. Animal lovers are attracted to the island primarily for its quokkas, but also its fur seals, sea lions, blue whales, humpbacks and southern right whales – a few of which you will likely see during your tour.
There are a number of outlets on the island for food and drink, from fish and chips to delicious restaurant meals. With plenty to choose from, you should have no trouble finding something to fill your stomach, but, if you want to avoid any queues, you can 'pack-your-own' to bring with you or pre-book lunch at Frankies on Rotto.
At the end of a brilliant day exploring every facet of this amazing island, you’ll head back to the mainland, returning at around 5:00pm.
